Philippine Army installs new TRADOC Commander

CAMP O’DONNELL, CAPAS, TARLAC – The premier educational and training institution of the Philippine Army, the Training and Doctrine Command installed its new commander. Major General Cornelio Valencia Jr officially assumed the post in a Change of Command Ceremony held here, Monday, September 23, 2019.

The change of TRADOC leadership was formalized through the turnover of command saber from the outgoing Commander, Major General Roy Devesa to Incoming Commander, Major General Cornelio Valencia Jr, presided by the Commanding General of the Philippine Army, Lieutenant General Macairog S Alberto.

Further, testimonial review and retirement ceremony was also given in honor of Major General Devesa for his thirty four (34) years of dedicated service who will be reaching the military mandatory retirement age of 56 on September 25.

“MGen Devesa congratulations on a job well done. Your leadership and guidance have left an unforgettable mark that will continue to inspire and motivate TRADOC to do their best in the years to come. We also welcome the Incoming Commander of TRADOC MGen Valencia Jr as he brings with him not only extensive experience from years of leadership roles in various AFP and Army units. I am optimistic that you will apply your strategic mindset towards enabling an even more dynamic TRADOC”, Lt. General Alberto said during his speech.

Prior to his assumption as TRADOC Commander, Major General Valencia Jr was the former Armed Forces of the Philippines Deputy Chief of Staff for Plans, J5 and a proud member of the PMA “Hinirang” Class of 1987.

Meanwhile, Major General Roy Devesa during his stint as TRADOC commander implemented a major innovation by restructuring the TRADOC Organizational Structure based on the training needs of the Army and the enactment of the Philippine Army-wide review and revision. With his aspirations of enhancing the war-fighting capabilities of Army, TRADOC paved way on the preparation and training of the newly created 1st Brigade Combat Team (1BCT).
